Andy’s account
Today started with a cracking climb up through a narrow gorge. We left the field behind us from the gun and quickly got into our own rhythm – fast, but trying to preserve as much energy for the days to come as possible. That’s easier said that done, as we were presented with some pretty steep descents where the only option is to let rip, right? As a result, by the top of the second (beast of a) climb we had opened up a 12 minute lead on the chasing German pair, which we stretched to over 16 minutes by the finish. A good solid day and a nice change to have no flat running today.
We’ve now got a good cushion of 24 minutes to second and then nearly 40 to third place. It’s a question of survival. Today was short in Transalpine language…
