English champs – round 2 Written on June 8, 2009, by johnh.
After a three month gap since the Half Tour of Pendle, we had the second round of the English Fell Running Championship in Shropshire on Saturday. The race was the short Stretton Hills race, designed specifically for the English Championship, and it was certianly a worthy championship course. The only flat bit of the race was the first steady run out to the foot of the first climb, other than that it was a case of constant up and down, with a final lung busting climb providing a nice sting in the tail before a fast run into the finish.
It was won by Rob Hope, with me in second yielding a SAAB Salomon Outdoor Team one-two. With Robs brother Danny coming home in third it also made for a Pudsey and Bramley one-two-three, so a good day for both teams.
Thankfully we didn’t have any of the incidence of some other races run this weekend, but that’s not too say the weather was nice. Heavy rain was falling for the whole day, and I noticed a thermometer saying 5 C just before the race start, just a typical June day I suppose!

John,
I have respected you for a long time but moldy cucumbers and rages are not enough. Thank you for guesting at the big event on Saturday.
Cheers
