Lakeland trail racing Written on April 20, 2009, by johnh.
I travelled up to the Lake District at the weekend to take part in the Hawkshead trail race, which kicks off the 2009 Lakeland trails series. It was the first of these races I had run since the Coniston trail in 2005 and it was run in glorious sunshine, which made a nice change to the murky greyness we had in Sheffield all week. I was in good enough form to grab the win.  Fortunately for me a lot of the really fast cross-country runners were at the national road relays. Having said that my time was still good enough to have put me in the top two or three when compared to previous years so all in all I came away very happy.
Hopefully I’ll hold this good form for a while longer as there are some nice races coming up in the next month or two that I would like to do well in. I am giving the Three Peaks a miss for the first time in a while this year. Much as I like the event I’d like to experience a May when my legs aren’t completely trashed.
