Weekend racing Written on March 23, 2009, by johnh.

I did two great A cat short races this weekend, one a race that has run for a few years, The Really Wild Boar race, and the other a brand new race in the Peak District, Wolfs Pit.

Although there was only a relatively small field of about 80 at Wild Boar, the quality wasn’t far off a championship race, with the likes of Rob Jebb, Morgan Donnelly and the Addisons turning up. I managed to win, but I was almost pipped by Jim Davies who took a fantastic line off the top to close about a minute on me and get ahead of Morgan and Jebby.

The Wolfs Pit race on Sunday was a welcome addition to the Peak District race calendar. Despite some great hills in the area there seems to be a distinct shortage of AS races but this race helped counter that, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it is used as a championship event in a few years time. It was a really tough race, made doubly so by tired legs and a gale force headwind in the second half but I managed to win again and round off a successful weekend of racing.

I now have a rubber wild boar mounted on a wooden plinth sat on my mantlepiece and a nice photo of Shatton Moor hanging on the wall (and some very tired legs as well).
