The Mighty Deerstalker Written on March 22, 2009, by andys.

My sister, Amy, before and after the Deerstalker
Last night, and for the second year in a row, I ran (and won) The Mighty Deerstalker (www.themightydeerstalker.com). It’s supposedly a 10km race, but it doesn’t feel like your bog standard 10km race, unless the emphasis is on bog. The course goes up and down through forest and scree on either side of the Tweed Valley, it sends you through bogs, rivers and over random wooden obstacles. And it’s an incredibly popular event with a sell-out entry of 1000. Last year it took me an hour and half, but this year, due to good conditions and slightly more light I shaved the best part of 20 minutes off that. Legs felt great following an easy week of very little mileage (largely because I didn’t want heavy legs for the tower race!). I’ll have to remember to do “a tower rep” mid week before more events, as it obviously freshens up the legs a bit. Having said that I’ve woken to a very sore throat this morning, kicked-off I’m sure by the air-passage burn out I subjected myself to in Tower 42 on Thursday. Hopefully some fresh Scottish mountain air will sort that out, as I’m planning a recce of the British Champs Race, Stuc a’Chroin, later this morning.
